Dell AMD timing less puzzling than Da Vinci code

DELL'S DECISION to adopteron the Opteron for four way servers has made us all breathe a deep sigh of relief. The rumour mill has churned for so long, with Wall Street making shedloads of money as the tale was spun and re-spun, that now we can all start speculating on something completely different.

Nevertheless, Dell's timing was interesting - coming hard on the heels of further AMD microprocessor announcements in Dullsville, San Jose last week. Can it be anything more than a calculated slap in Intel's face with a wet AMD fish?
