DDR3-1600 SDRAM: Technological Breakthrough or Marketing Trick?

We managed to get our hands on the new overclocker DDR3 memory kits from OCZ (PC3-12800 Platinum Channel EB Edition) and Super Talent (W1600UX2G7) that are designed to work at 1600MHz speed. Let’s take a closer look at these solutions and find out if these memory kits will be able to win against the best DDR2 products.

if overclocking DDR2 doesn't bring performance increase for C2D, no DDR3 will change that...

Despite the progress that has been made, everything we have already pointed out in our previous article called DDR3 SDRAM: Revolution or Evolution? stays true. Unfortunately, the new overclocker DDR3 memory didn’t make a very positive impression. I would say it made a pretty ambiguous impression. The thing is that according to the benchmark results we have just discussed, neither DDR3-1333 with extremely low timings, nor DDR3-1600 could offer us better performance than the good old DDR2 SDRAM. Although in some applications the new DDR3 SDRAM proves more efficient, in the majority of tasks the situation is completely opposite.
their tests proof what we already know:)

At last a site that compares these two :)

For months now I've been looking for a decent DDR2 vs DDR3 comparison : all reviews were looking at basic DDR2 vs basic and OC'ed DDR3. What a fair comparison  Now, when you look at the best DDR2 vs the best DDR3 (for now), the true cat comes out of the hole ;)

A pity I don't have any DDR3 (board), I wanted to make the comparison myself, x-bit beat me too it ;-D

DDR3 is a seed being planted. It is not the time to harvest the fruit. No difference than DDR and DDR2 at the beginning. A few review sites with generous budget, resources and support is writing article really for a few enthusiasts enjoy having the lastest not necessarily the greatest.:)

What to buy and compare hygrogen car with your diesel engine? :D

I get your point, but so far DDR3 has been an enthusiast "thing" period. So it would only be fair to compare DDR3 to enthusiast's grade DDR2. So far this wasn't done, or very scarcely :)

... runs off to the car dealer :D

I am a PC enthusiast; reading enthusiast.:)

I understand where you come from and your point of view. :)

Don't waste your time to the car dealer yet, I am just saying it.:D
