Default Cytek working on CryEngine 3.0

Crytek has just announced CryEngine 3.0 and with that its foray into the licensing its engine for the console industry. Up until now, the CryEngine was exclusively developed on the PC and major games like FarCry (CryEngine 1.0), Crysis & Crysis: Warhead (CryEgine 2.0) were only available to the PC platform. This development will be interesting because of Crytek's reputation (even though their engines offered the best eye-candy of all engines) has not been successful in wide adoption by game publishers.

On the other hand, EPIC with its Unreal 3.0 engine has been widely successful in the adoption of its engine on the PC as well as console platform with popular games like BioShock, Gears of War, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, Army of Two etc. EPIC is supposedly working on Unreal 4.0 engine but will be not be available only for current generation consoles. Popular "Doom" developer John Carmack is also working on his next engine dubbed IdTech5 which will be the foundation for Doom 4 and Rage slated for release late this year.

Its looking good for gamers as all major developers try to churn out their latest engines that can potentially transport the gamers into life-like worlds, at the expense of immense graphics computing power. CryTek is set to demo the new engine to developers at the upcoming Game Developers Conference scheduled to be held in the next few weeks.
