CRN Selects AMD Athlon FX-53 Processor to Power `Ultimate PC'

AMD Athlon Processor Chosen to Power Cutting-Edge System for Fifth Time

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jun 3, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- AMD (AMD) today announced that CRN (Computer Reseller News) chose the AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX-53 processor to power its "Ultimate PC." CRN Test Center engineers evaluate various PC components selected for excellence in innovation, functionality and performance to showcase the best in cutting-edge technology. In front of an audience at the XChange TechBuilder conference in Las Vegas, CRN lab director John Yacono constructed what is deemed by CRN as the "Ultimate PC" based on the AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 processor.

CRN readers are executives in the microcomputer reseller industry who turn to the publication to keep them abreast of technological and business developments in the PC industry.

"The Ultimate PC showcases new best-in-breed products, and this year's unit featured some truly bold innovations. A notable advance is the inclusion of an AMD 64-bit processor, which for the first time gives the UPC the ability to run 64-bit code without sacrificing access to legacy 32-bit applications," said Yacono, director of the CRN Test Center. "The flexibility, performance and software-compatibility behind the AMD64 processor made it a natural choice for our cutting-edge system."

"Being selected by CRN as the processor of choice for the `Ultimate PC' reiterates the outstanding performance capabilities of AMD64 processors to computer resellers, one of our strongest and most important market segments," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit. "This is another proof point that the AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 processor continues to push the boundaries of mainstream computing, enabling an immersive, extreme performance experience."

CRN also selected an AMD Athlon processor for its "Ultimate PC" at XChange TechBuilder in 2002, PC Expo in 2000 and 2001, and at Comdex in 1999.

The AMD Athlon 64 FX and AMD Athlon 64 processors, like all AMD64 processors, have the added security benefit of Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) capability. This capability, in conjunction with the upcoming Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Service Pack 2, will be able to prevent the execution of certain types of malicious viruses.

The award-winning AMD Athlon 64 desktop processors also feature Cool'n'Quiet(tm) technology, an innovative system-level feature that lowers the power consumption of the PC when maximum performance is not needed. A PC with AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology enabled will consume less power, and run cooler and quieter on most applications.
