Budget Dual-Core Goodness - Pentium D 805

Now before I sound like "sour grapes", I have to thank Intel, because they left the multiplier adjustable between 14-20 making the D 805 an excellent low-cost tweaker's chip. I just wish the FSB was a bit more flexible.

Bumping the Vcore did not help - as a matter of fact it made things worse, often initiating thermal shutdown. The power envelope on the D 805 is 95W, and it is 135W on the D 840. I have to wonder if the thermal shutdown temperature is fixed at a lower level on the 805.

4 articles in one week on the D 805...

some questions come to my mind :

- What motherboard chipset do you need for this cpu?
Are there budget-friendly motherboards to go with this chip?
I don't want to pay 200€ or more for a decent mobo in a budget system.

- Is the multiplier unlocked on all these chips ? Or only the cpu in this review.

Sorry for the lame questions , my last Intel chip was a P3 500 :D

Via pt8880 (not recommended - DDR1) Or intel 945. DDR2

FYI, I've got a MSI 945P neo for sale.

Nomally these chips are unclocked, only two multipliers. But I can't get to work my CU on a lower multi so far.
