Broadcom's hybrid HD DVD, Blu-ray chip

While the start to the next-gen optical format wars is just now heating up, some companies are working on ways to force a cease-fire. Months ago we speculated that someone would come to market with a hybrid player capable of handling HD DVD and Blu-ray discs, and it looks like Broadcom is jockeying to provide the silicon for anyone wanting to do that. The company has unveiled the key pieces in its hybrid approach to the next generation just slightly ahead of CES.
