ATI cancelled RV530 orders in summer

IT'S NOT every day we hear an executive say that he and the company he leads chickened out. Yet ATI told the press that the key reason why it won't have its RV530, Radeon X1600 generation of cards till December because it chickened out and cancelled its wafer orders.

Back in the summer, when R520 had its nasty current leakage problem, the same chap who, incidentally, used to like and still likes AMD, confirmed that RV530 had the same problem. If you remember this bug prevented the card from working effectively at more than 500MHz. The Radeon X1600XT works at 600MHz but was indeed affected by that bug. As soon as ATI fixed the bug for R520, it applied the same technique and fixed RV530 all the troubles were gone.
