Default Apple PowerBook explodes in London office

STAFF IN THE London office of a marketing company were left shocked and reeling yesterday after an Apple PowerBook burst into flames.

The company asked not to be identified, as IT manager Steven told how he was called to the scene by reports of smoke billowing out of an employee's computer.

"When I got there, much of the smoke has dissipated and nothing much was happening. I picked up the notebook to investigate, and turned it over. Soon after I put it down again, it basically exploded. Flames we flying six foot in the air, and sparks,"

Very lucky he put that down just before it exploded... could have been extremely bad.

I owned one of these for four years. There was a battery recall for "risk of fire" three years ago, which I participated in. Quite sure this is one that wasn't exchanged

Almost everyone regardless of specific brand had battery recalls ~3 yeas ago. Had to send in one of my two Dell laptop batteries. I think the grand total was almost 1 billion batteries had been recalled when adding them all together? Sony had another battery recall that affected major OEMs in October 2008, estimated 100,000 more were recalled.
