Antec P180 Mid-Tower Case

Antec has seemingly spared no expense with the P180. It was made very clear to us during our meeting that the primary goal for all of Antec’s new cases was to be as quiet as possible. A number of things were done to help achieve this; from specially designed side panels, large diameter low-speed fans, anti-vibration measures, and more… One rather interesting design decision was to have a separate compartment on the bottom of the case dedicated to the power supply and hard drives, while the motherboard was left on top in its standard orientation. What’s unusual is that they didn’t reverse the motherboard or turn it upside-down, like you typically see in this sort of configuration. It will be interesting to see what sort of implications this has on cable management.

I think Antec would have been better off to spend more time and money on the design of this case to get all the features perfect and then set the price point at around $200.00 to compete with Lian Li’s luxury cases.

contradictory to this statement from the same link:

The exterior of this case is silver, sleek, and wonderfully minimalist. The only thing you will see on the front of this case is the front I/O ports and door lock.

no performance numbers either, which turns the whole thing into a "preview" in my humble opinion

fitting a psu into this thing is a nightmare.

plus I had to get rid of the big cooler used in the hdd cage and get it installed in the midtunnel coz the cables of the psu were blocked

OCZ psu's are quite common nowadays...

so I'm guessing you have one? how's does it "sound" ?

The Senile Doctor 22nd December 2005 15:03

compared to the other rig (passive mobo, incorporated gpu passive, ocz 420 (= silent), slow 120mm XP120 on unoverclocked 3800+ dualcore, one slow 80mm of case cooling in a lianlic pc6070b) it's loud, but that is my cabinetrig and it's very very silent.

the p180 with 3*120mm @low), three hdd (2*74raptor and one seagate 400), ocz 600 and a vapochill ultra hi end (@1000rpm) and 2 7800gtx's is still not noisy, but to quantify is difficult,

jmke 22nd December 2005 15:05

compared to your previous case ?

The Senile Doctor 22nd December 2005 15:07

I had no case, previous was open on the table (and was less noisy) but that included only one hdd and an xp90 with very slow running 92mm and a gpu cooler one one x850xt-pe that was running @ 8% when not gaming, so you can't compare them.
my other setup was a vapo LS, so that's way louder.

It's very bearable now...
I have no objective measurements...
