Analyst: 2008 Will Determine high-def content winner A clear leader in the battle to be the top next-generation optical disc format could emerge next year as player prices plummet and take of the cost of entry out of the equation, market watcher Understanding & Solutions (U&S) has claimed. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/12...dvd_price_war/ |
As someone who is patiently waiting for the battle between the two formats to end - which may not happen for years - others believe 2008 will be a crucial year for both formats. I can't wait to head to CES and see what kind of new technologies we can wait for. Even though the price of HD DVD or Blu-ray players has dropped considerably here in the United States, I don't like how some movies are being released on one format and not the other. |
double format players will be thé solution:) |

I'm not fully convinced that 2008 will be the year that finally determines the winner, but I at least hope it will be a bit more obvious. |
I don't think dual format will become a viable solution soon enough to actually be the solution. Dual-format players cost more than Blu-ray and HD-DVD players combined and then some, and it seems a safe to say their pricing is not going to change much. Cheaper to just buy both players! While I think price is the biggest issue, it doesn't help that dual format players don't come with the freebies/free movies, and some of the the dual format players that cost $999+ don't include all the Blu-ray or HD-DVD player functionality the single format players offer. |
