AMD Radeon HD 4770 CrossFire Evaluation

Obviously, if you already have an HD 4770 installed in your system it will be cheaper to just go ahead and buy another and enjoy a better gameplay experience coming close, if not matching the HD 4890 in most games. However, if you are stuck on old GPU hardware, and debating this configuration choice, we think the clear answer is a single Radeon HD 4890. It provides full performance all of the time and this will help in games where CrossFire scaling does not work well in. Also, with a Radeon HD 4890 you then have the option to add another one (money providing of course) for even more performance far exceeding what HD 4770 CrossFire could provide.

In all of our gameplay testing this summer we are more and more impressed with the Radeon HD 4890, especially considering how much prices have fallen lately. For near $200, The Radeon HD 4890 rings of value and the opportunity to enjoy a great gameplay experience in all of today’s games.

Single high end GPU will always trump two/more mid/low end GPUs price/performance/watts/installation/config/maintenance wise.

no matter how you spin it; single GPU is still the way forward, same as single threaded performance is still the major deciding factor for CPUs; while having more GPUs/Cores can increase performance, without software which can take maximum benefit, the advantage will always go to the higher clocked single gpu/core system;
