AMD misses Q2 revenue targets

AMD TODAY CONFESSED to missing its sales target for its financial 2006 second quarter. It said it sold some $1.22 billion worth of kit achieving a profit of $89 million, or $0.18 per share, for the quarter that ended on July 2nd.

AMD’s chief bean counter, Robert (J) Rivet, said he was "dissatisfied" with the numbers. And if the bean counters ain't happy an axe usually falls on some slim neck somewhere along the line.

And, it ain't going be any better for the next quarter and the quarter after :(

that's still to be seen. while Core 2 will sweep up the enthusiast market, the mainstream just goes for the cheapest what's out there and doesn't care much about extreme performance

With massive discounts on Intel across the board, it's going to be tough at the low end too.

i believe Intel has bottomed out while AMD will go lower further. I made my money on AMD late last year to beginning of this year. If I were a gambler, I would put more into Intel which from now on can't get any worst but better.

AMD might continue to have trouble, even on the low-end market, due to the fact that almost all of the big OEMs are still Intel only. While they may make some sales on the low-end retail market and possibly some in the enthusiast market, the real money is still in the bulk OEM sales.
