AMD to Boost Single-Threading Performance on Multi-Core Chips Advanced Micro Devices may offer gamers something, which significantly boosts performance of single-threaded games with its new central processing units (CPUs) in socket AM2 form-factor, the sources claim. |
if they can pull this off, use 2 cores to act as one CPU, they might stand more than a reasonable chance against Conroe:) |
@ overclockers.com is a nice editorial about this reverse hyperthreading like they call it Check it out |
I honestly hope it does yield a huge speed increase in single-threaded apps so that Intel picks it up as well and it becomes an industry standard. I'm sure that if something like that happens people will be able to code especially for it and not worry about compatibility. I don't know if it's really something gamers are going to flip about since I believe most of the new games coming out that need a ton of horsepower are going multithreaded anyway. But it was still cool of AMD to put a neat ability like this in their chips. |
