Acer ultraportable recall due to burn risk

Picked up one of Acer's 13.3" consumer ultraportables last year? Your laptop could be among 22,000 being recalled due to a wiring problem. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has put up a recall page with the relevant information, and it says Aspire AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ, and AS3810TZG laptops sold between June and October 2009 are potentially affected.

According to the CPSC, an internal microphone wire in those laptops can short-circuit, overheat, and cause the palm rest to melt slightly. Any soft flesh resting on said palm rest at the time of the overheating is liable to get burnt, as well. Acer has reportedly gotten three reports of such incidents, although nobody has gotten hurt so far, and none of the incidents happened in the United States.
