ABIT AV8 Under Fire Many Abit motherboard users didn't have a quite so merry christmas this year according to the Abit support forums. There seems to be a problem with the new Abit AV8 motherboard for the socket 939 Athlon64. From what I've read in the numerous forum posts it appears to work fine with the old 130nm Newcastle core Athlon64, but if you put in a new 90nm Winchester core Athlon64 the motherboard reads "9.0." on the digital display and just sits there, not even sending a signal to the video card to turn on the monitor. What does this mean? If you ordered a Abit AV8 motherboard and new Athlon64 processor online to build a new PC it won't work. According to members of the forum a bios upgrade fixes the problem, but you can't upgrade what you can't see and Abit doesn't say a bios upgrade will fix the problem in it's description of the bios revisions and in the facts it says that POST code "90" (do they mean 9.0.?) means a failed overclock. In fact no where on the Abit site does it even admit there's even a problem except for in the forums. So what's going on? Is there a problem with the AV8 and a Abit conspiracy, or are dozens of users mad they can't overclock their processors? I'll let you decide that. More than a year later, Abit has not and will not fix high CPU temp on IC7 series boards ...... AV8 can wait.:^D |
there are neo msi's with same problem with 90nm. ask me. |
I would not be too confident to ask a Senile person this |

Need a BIOS flash? Perhaps an older revision of your mobo? |
@easypanic : Would you try out my mainboard? I could deliver it to Gullegem fridaynight, you could try if it works on your setup in the next days? |
Holy cow with these many "warnings" to oc MSI. I'd rather call them warnings than tips. http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43033 |

nothing special if you could help a doctor ;) |
He could have a drink with us :feesten: :drink: |
well, I'll just drop it off and leave it there till tuesday, so you can check it when you want? I'll bring the mobo, the cpu and the ddr600. you'll see what happens. thanx -a-lot!!!!!! |
Doc, put the memory in the dimms closed to the socket. don't attach a fan on the fanheaders, use a molex instead. try to update the bios to 1.4 or higher. (maybe use other ram). |
updating a bios with NO electrical reaction whatsoever is hardly possible... the mobo gives NOTHING instead of sometimes some fans spinning, I need activity before I can flash a bios |
Ok, very very very fast try before I get to party :feesten: . All of The Senile Doctor's stuff (3000+, MSI, 2*512 Adata) booted nicely with my OCZ Powerstream and a borked 5900 (even cpu fan not connected) :super: . Will swap gear further on this weekend with my stuff. Only thing I can think of: 1) Superflower won't react good with your mobo. 2) Booting up with your 92mm attached to cpu fan connector could give boot problems (or did you try with boxed cooler?). |
Ok, all hardware tested and I give it a 10/10 :D . See my previous post for some solutions Herr Dokter. |
so... everything workd without flaw? it must be the superflower...i tested two cpu's both superflower... did you test with the xp90 and enermax 92mm fan? if that works , all I need is a new psu... |
No cpu fan => boot. Enermax @ low speed => boot. Enermax @ high speed => boot. :excellent |
Easypanic earned himself a new rig in my humble opinion ;) |
so it really is the goddamn superflower psu's... you booted thru shortcutting the powerbutton-pins with screwdriver? |
