10 Reasons Why You Should Adopt LINUX
 

The number one reason why Linux is the choice of many is the freedom it gives. It “let’s you do everything you want to do” but this is not the only aspect of this freedom. Linux liberates you from the yoke of vendors who hurl unwanted updates your way, and frees you from the sight of the horrible blue screens of death and its likes. This precious freedom doesn’t cost you a penny. You can download a free distribution of Linux from the internet. Otherwise, you can get a CD from the market after spending a minimal amount of money and without worrying about the licensing fees or about violating the piracy laws because Linux is open source and it comes with GNU General Public License. This is its true beauty and the reason why Linus Torvalds and the whole Linux community, working to make things better, have many admirers.

Microsoft desires that Linux prove its cost case

THE SOFTWARE equivalent to Wal Mart is engaged in negotiations with the Open Source Development Labs in a bid to resolve the issue about which OS is the cheapest to run.
If the MicroSoft deal goes ahead it will mean that it and Linux proponents would be unable to snipe at one another about which was the best, because it would have all been decided by an agreed third party.

This might seem strange as Vole has spent a fortune on an aggressive ‘Get The Facts campaign’ claiming that Windows is much better than Linux. Now, either Microsoft is supremely confident that any research will prove that Windows is much better than Linux, or it has another cunning plan which we are not aware of.

Under the deal, Vole will pay for half the funding costs for a joint research project should the OSDL agree to this. We should say that all this is fairly unlikely as the Open Sauce King Linux Torvalds and his henchman Andrew Morton both work for OSDL.

According to eWEEK, Martin Taylor, the architect of Microsoft's "Get the Facts’ campaign hit on the idea of helping Linux ‘prove its case’ after reading an opinion piece in one of the Linux magazines that identified the need for the Linux and open-source community to come up with its own facts-based effort.

Although Taylor and OSDL representatives did meet, no agreement has yet been made.

No OS is secure if there is an idiot behind the keyboard. It's all about configuring it correctly. It only gives a false feeling of security.

11. It's hard
Since this guide is something for people who do not or hardly have used Linux, it applies to all of them.
Linux is a lot harder to learn then Windows, espacialy because you have to do a lot of things through the command line. Most options can be configured via KDE or Gnome, but most applications still require a command line installation.
This means, that if you would change your whole company to Linux (you'll have to pay for that), you have to give courses to everybody who's going to use it, plus you'll have to find another system admin (if the current one doesn't know linux enough).
And there's also something called 'compatibility'. I don't think clients/friends would be happy if you'd mail them a file in OpenOffice.org format. I have to admit that OpenOffice.org's Office-compatibility has gotten better, but still isn't 100%, so you'll risk screwing up a lot of work.

1 thing left to say, I'm not contra Linux, I just want to clear things up and say what's not in the article (ok, it's 10 reasons to choose for it, but there should also be a 10 reasons not to choose for it article), and no, I'm not pro windows, just a little balanced, hanging over to the contra side.

The os is from origin not made for gaming, though... you can play those games but dunno where i have read it.


true, but there aren't alot of 'hackers' that gonna try to write a virus for a linux system as the biggist market is still MS

then that's your problem mostly cause u don't know what networkchipset you are using :)

well, be happy... you don't have to pay for them + if u know for what the programs serve u wouldn't be saying this :)

Linux is not a OS you just install, i have read like 10 courses online and still don't know "jack ****",... so u would like to install it directly to use it like a someone who had to go to school to understand it.

And that's the main problem with most who try linux, they just think it has to be another MS clone so they can use it easely
