Sidney | 4th March 2005 03:17 | Another angle from our beloved friends Most of us know very well what AMD/Intel and Nvidia/ATI offer to this very community.
Part of your life or to some an extended part of your life spends knowing what these companies could offer in terms of:
1) SPEED
2) Frame rates
3) Thermal characteristics
4) Overclocking and scaling
5) Bench marking
If you have the means, you would break into the guts of CPUs and GPUs just to find out how much you could exploit more.
Here is another look of these companies from a financial point of view, meaning what do another group of people look at. They are just as enthusiastic as we are.
Intel & AMD - past 5 years value and profit
If you look at profit versus stock value, they don't make sense. While Intel keeps making profit year after year, it's stock value does not follow profit. Look at AMD, it's stock value is holding up despite losses. However, look closer to sales revenue of the two.
If you place yourself in an AMD forum, it's only natural that eveyone is an AMD fan; the same for Intel forum where everyone is an Intel fan. Walk around town, you will find more Intel fans as the sales numbers cannot lie.
Nvida and ATI - past 5 years value and profit
The charts show ATI really screwed things up in recent years allowing Nvidia to come ahead on all fronts.
This may well be boring stuffs to you; but if not, you are into loving the industry for a long time to come.:)
Memory companies, Apple and IBM are other major players let alone some important IT focus groups.:D |
