Tyrael turns 21yrs! Time for a new gaming-rigg!
 

Hi people,

On January 21, I turn 21 yrs old so I thought I could afford myself a new pc for gaming. My old one has died last year in November. RIP. The purpose of this new machine is: gaming, gaming and gaming! No MSN messenger, IRC, mail, etc - I'll use these programs on my laptop.

- Price: about 1600 euro...
- I'd like you to get the best price/quality comparison.
- About the CPU: is the boxed cooler "quiet" enough, or would a Zalman Silent fan be good? (Quietness here is an important factor because my parents sleep next to me.)
- If possible, a 7800 GTX? :o
- Ordering by the parts by different computer-shops is possible.
- The case! I rode a few reviews on this case and it just looks great! The PSU either isn't important to me, as long as it's strong and feeds my little "beast"! ;)
- This system will be watched on an Iiyama 19" screen (I don't have it yet, but have found one for sale...)

Tyrael, n/o, you got me confused me about the HSF fan noise:)

the stock Athlon 64 is quite loud when at full speed, but when you enable the motherboards Q-fan technology it will scale well and slow down a lot.

the A64 3500+, when not overclocked, will not run TOO hot to handle; and the P180 has good airflow and isolates noise too

the PSU will most likely be the trouble, maybe get one which you know operates silently and has 120mm fan.

I would leave away the raptor (noise, cost) and upgrade to a San Diego 3700+ or get an Opteron 144 or 146.


You want 1 MB cache on the CPU for better min FPS.

the increase in CPU speed will NEVER give the same overall system performance boost, when compared to Raptor as a system disk.

FYI, and I think this might be important to mention, Tyrael really means that his PC should not be too for his parents; as he himself could easily work next to a 120mm Delta fan.

hehe, you have exactly the same way of finding the best setup :D . I even use exactly the same shops (except loveno, cause they are (were?) more expensive).

Indeed, Loveno is too expensive.

I posted this also on Arena51, because I want a second opinion ;). Either way, I also said on A51 that I wasn't sure to get which motherboard, memory and PSU.

I havent heard that Raptors increase the FPS when gamin, yet I've heard from people who went from Venice to San Diego chips that the system got more responsive and booted faster.

We're not talking about fps performance by a Raptor. Loading times are way better with that hard disk ;).

in current PCs the hard drive is the performance bottleneck

But they do noticable decrease the loadtimes of your favourite games :D
