| thinkpad a30 questions I just purchased a second-hand ibm tp a30 500 euros for a P3m1000/256mb/30gig/15", pretty sweet deal isn`t it its ideal for the things i need + build like a tank now i thought there was a tp owner here, and other laptop owners on this forum so some questions: -are there must have drivers other than the baterry maximizer from ibm or recommended bioses that can add helpfull tools for this laptop? -i just installed winXP with the classic look, is win2000 more energysaving or not? -the battery is probably 2 years old and still good for 1,45h, i can buy a new one that is 4Ah instead of the 3,6Ah that it is now, but will it make much of a difference? also i want to add wireless and i would like some advise to buy the right card because i`m thinking to put linux on this laptop in the future so i need a card that is compatible and preferably 802.11g thanks for any advice |

| Amazing deal you did there, I've got the same laptop and I think it rocks. : ) Linux runs great in this laptop. I'm typing this from my thinkpad a30 in Gentoo, i have had no problems yet. I can't tell you much about the powersaving features in linux except they work. I never run on batteries so I always run at full speed (the fan barely spins anyways...). You might be the person i've been looking for. I bought a brand new thinkpad a30 battery (costs about 200 euro : / ) because i thought my previous battery was dead, but it turned out my battery charcher on the mobo is broken. So now I have a brand new battery that is completely useless to me... if you're interested, you can have it for half the price. Your laptop should work 3.20hours on it.
