SMART enabled/disabled ?
 

Kheb 2 x maxtor 120gb en in mijn bios staat SMART op disabled.
Heeft da veel invloed diene SMART op snelheid ?
Kweet waarvoor het dient die SMART, ma is da nodig om da te enablen ?

met die SMART kan je je harde schijf monitoren, temperatuur enzo bv, als ze het ondersteund.

SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis & Reporting Technology)

Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) is an interface between a computer's start-up program or BIOS (basic input/output system) and the computer hard disk. It is a feature of the Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics (EIDE) technology that controls access to the hard drive. If S.M.A.R.T is enabled when a computer is set up, the BIOS can receive analytical information from the hard drive and determine whether to send the user a warning message about possible future failure of the hard drive.

leave it disabled if you know what you're doing.

leave it anabled otherwise.

Enabling or disabling SMART in bios does not interfere with the temp monitoring.

I would definately ENABLE S.M.A.R.T.
because if your HDD is about to crash and S.M.A.R.T. is disabled, your HDD wil be ruined.
If S.M.A.R.T. is enabled, you might have the chance to save some data.

if your HD is going to crash, it's going to be ruined anyway.
Someone who knows what he's doing, should be able to tell this even before SMART does.
Then again, there are quite a number of drives that don't present a REAL problem when SMART says so.

you mean by the sound? what if .. for example I got 4 casefans.. what then? :p

By the reaction of the PC. SMART needs a certain amount of errors to accumulate before it reports.
