should I be happy or not

well, finally we convinced our dad buying a new computer... but it had to be 'his' way... with a flatscreen and laserprinter AND in a local shop AND it had to be bought right now

we're getting this:
P4 2.4ghz
this gigabyte mobo
256MB RIMM 32bit (ev. Kingston)
80Gb HD maxtor ( i asked for fluid bearing)
i also asked for such a nice superflower case (aluminium, 350W, for only 100€)
MSI ti 4200
general stuff
15" LCD samsung
Brother laserprinter

this for 2000€ without VAT:wtf:

well, should I be happy or not....
if i bought it @loveno/tones/forcom/.. it would be much cheaper
if i waited till december it would be MUCH more powerful (granite bay, nv30)

so if I did it 'my' way i would get a monster pc for the same money

give me yer thoughts

it's a great setup, mobo roxx, rimms will give ya extreme bandwith, and you can pump that cpu up a little.

ti4200 still roxx

cpu : 275 euro
ti4200 : 150 euro
rimms 250 euro
gigabyte 200 euro
case 100 euro
hdd 160 euro
some general stuff : 200 euro
laserprinter 250 euro
lcd 170 euro

If your dad pays everything, I think you should be happy (never look a given horse in the mouth), but if you pay part of it, you'd better convince your dad to wait a month or two.

and like calantac said, that's a nice setup

TeuS 30th October 2002 12:29

thx,
you can call me 'ondankbaar', but we pay 500€ ourselves, better HD/case/cpu not included

i didn't manage to convince my dad nor bro' either; I certainly hope it's that type gigabyte, all I need then is a good hs/fan:)

The Senile Doctor 30th October 2002 12:35

buy yourself a pal 8492+ fan, and that 2.4 will do 145-150 fsb (ram will have to run that normally), that's 2.7 ghz, but you need to keep your ram quadpimped

TeuS 30th October 2002 12:48

thx, some more questions

a) kingston or apacer ram?
b) upgrade to 2.53: 70€ (vat inclu), worth it?

alu case costs 62€ (vat inclu) more, transport from colorcase included...rip-off:
stock case is worth 100€, and the alu 80-90€

and yes, it's a 8IHXP worth 260€ :o

where did you find an lcd for 170 euro??

@Teus, I've got a great tip for ya. 15" TFT's are incredebly expensive in Belgium, unlike in Germany. I bought a 17" Samsung TFT this week @ funcomputer.de for 530 eur incl transport.

Superb desing, quality samsung TFT panel (wiseview) and 0 dead pixels! I would highly recommend it. My dad is against buying online or abroad like your dad, but when he saw my screen he wanted to order one right away too! €530 for a 17" quality TFT is as cheap as it gets! Go buy one now!! :)

By the way, the other components seem A-OK. If your dad wants to spend 2000+ eur on it, let him, it's his money and I'd be greatful he chose such a kickass pc. You're not going to tell me that ti4200 is for him. ;)

TeuS 3rd November 2002 19:15

hehe
I first had a talk with the dude that sold the pc's to let him know which type of mobo/cpu/graca we wanted. he mailed it to my dad: "this is my proposal" and dad didn't notice anything ;)

'bout that tft: he just doesn't want it (i've just ****ed up my norsk-it "bestelling" as you know. they've got teh cash, but as the ordering system is fully automated and they don't answer the mails i've got some probs)
:(
well... i could take a 17" CRT of low quality and let a made order a 17" TFT... i'll think about it

wrong account number
I was in a hurry, while mailing my dad i copypasted an example of the 'vermelding' where I should have copypasted the bank/account number
a small mistake causing lotsa trouble :/

TeuS 7th November 2002 09:36

Is it just me or is 2000€ a bit much for all that? Here is my reccomendation for system components...

AMD Athlon 2400+
Epox 8K9A2+
Corsair PC3500
Geforce 4 Ti4600/Radeon 9700
and all the other stuff you wanted. You'll have much better system at a similar price (I think), which you can overclock to be much faster than a 2.4GHz P4.

If its Intel, Get:
P4 2.4GHz
Abit IT7MAX2 or the Asus equivalent
Corsair PC3500
Geforce Ti4200
etc.

I dont know about gigabyte boards. Also, Abits RMA policy doesnt extend beyond north america I think, not 100% sure. Seriously, when it comes to new computer parts warranty and service comes first.

TeuS 10th November 2002 12:41

indeed septimus, you ARE right
i COULD order that stuff...but the price would be outrageous
e.g.:price stock case: 100€
I asked for him to order @colorcase that case... I had to pay 65€ more (transport included)... he asks 150€, colorcase 100€

so imagine what would happen if I did this for everything

he has printed the offer: 2650€, VAT included :wtf:

TeuS 15th November 2002 06:13

case done
cause I had too many problems with the first hole using the circlecutter, i used my "wipzaag"for the other holes
front will be cutted with circlecutter later (is plastic)

TeuS 24th November 2002 14:15

it's here
final pc:
p4 2.53
asus p4t533
1*256mb samsung rimm
17"TFT
laserprinter
logitech cordless desktop
48x writer (they gave me an aopen, if i want i can change it for a philips...should i do it?)
80gb hd fluid bearing

[Bonbon] 26th November 2002 20:24

Aopen cdrw 32/12/48 works fine over here
only the cd from aopen that was in the package failed to burn -ironic- , after that first i nver got an error again
burned about 200 cd's now with lots of different brands, no problems , even with 'boecht' cd's (no label und so)

TeuS 26th November 2002 20:32

damn, it was a MSI (they painted the frontplate)
winxp recognizes it, nero and so NOT

tried to update firmware, bios detects it but even winxp not anymore ???

lite on 52* arriving next week:)
