Radeon 9800...
 

As stated in my previous thread, I am not happy at all with performance of my new pc. It can hardly run Midnight Club 2 @ 800x600 ffs!!! :puke:

What's the point of buying this system if it still can't run a 3D game @ 1152 at least WITH FSAA... quite a waste of money, right?

So I'm thinking it's my video card, which is the only older component in PC...

Surfing on Funcomputer site I saw this one :

This is a LOT cheaper than belgian shops... Is this a good card?

What I need :

- Dual monitor
- GOOD performance
- very QUIET ( Can I install my Zalman HP80A heatpipe on it?? )

Also, how do I order at Funcomputer? Just like regular shop and they bring it to my door? What are your expierences with this shop? I've read quite a lot of good comments about it...

So main questions are :

- Will this card be better than my ti4400?
- Can I install heatpipe on it? If no, how loud is fan?
- How's the shop?

I'm able to run Midnight Club 2 @ 1024x768 very fluently, without hickups
my sys: P4@2.6ghz + Ti4600

you have several bottlenecks in your system though.. the motherboard is not using the nForce2 chipset, the XP1800+ is pretty out of date too (far from topnotch), the Ti4400 is OKAY for the system, and upgrading the Mobo/CPU will have a greater overall impact on performance then just buying a new vidcard

my 2 cents

(P4 DDR setup I865 chipset with P4 2.4C CPU would be my choice)

cool I made the right guess then , a I865 mobo + "C" P4 cpu :)

that should be able to boost the Ti4400 in games.. try a clean install, latest detonators + DX9

the R9800 (pro) will surely give you alot more power, and if you plan on playing solely with FSAA turned up you have no other choice, as the older Geforce & Radeon cards don't really perform well when using FSAA & AS.

I just did a clean install, I have all the latest drivers ( Intel, Dx9, all MS updates, detonators.... You name it I have it :D )

That's the weird thing... And I just can't imagine that a ti4400 is that much slower than a ti4600?? Friend of mine has P4 2.26 + ti4600 and his games run a LOT more smooth than mine. And rest of my system is 'twice' as fast as his...

Eg : Warcraft III

Plays nicely on this PC @ 1024 with Quincunx AA.

But then I say the game on my friends PC at a small LAN @ 1152 with same AA and it was a HUGE difference in smoothness. It runs smooth on mine, but compared to other computer with ti4600...

Could that Zalman HP80A installed on my card have anything to do with it?

Does anyone have it or know good reviews? I can only find reviews of 9800pro cards...

I bought my Sapphire R9800 non pro at compu-square in wijgmaal a week or two back.

Excellent stuff... i can overclock it without artifacts with a zalman hp50 (the little brother of the hp80) from 325 / 290 to 430 / 385. Without mods and normal air cooling, i'd call this pretty amazing. It's even far beyond R9800 Pro levels!

The memory is simply amazing. The Samsung 3.3ns (300mhz) chips @ 2.7v even outperform many R9800 pro cards with expensive 2.8ns chips @ 2.9v.

Hmm thx, interesting reply. Did you notice a big speed difference with your previous card? ( and what was your previous card? )

And a Zalman hp50 can keep that thing cool?? How tha heck is that possible... Hmm then I might keep my Hp80.

Did you have to order it at compu-square or was it in stock?

Also, is it possible to reinstall such a Zalman pipe? I used all thermal paste for this card, but I have plenty of thermalpaste lying around here. I could use any kind of paste as long as I clean the pipe up first, right?
