a question for raptor owners

My workrig sports an abit nf7-s with a xp2400+ at 166fsb(basically unoverclocked)
there's a sucky 512 mb stick (sc) of apacer on there that runs 166 @ cas 2 -3-2-6
That's perfect for day use (it's only used to surf sometimes but run medical applications most of the time (accrimed/prescribe/medibridge), but the hdd is an ancient 10 gb ibm, don't even know what type, backups are done on a maxtor 40 gb daily, but os and all apps are on the oldie

If I were to switch that ancient ibm drive (it's over three years old now) for a 36 gb raptor, would the difference in desktop use/simple apps be noticeable?
coz if it wouldn't there's no use changing it.

can I use a single sata drive on any nf7-s?

sisoft drive benchmark gives the drive 11719 points:rolleyes:
that's very very low, considering my 2 mb cache 40 gb maxtor does 28.000
buffered read 27
sequential read 18
average seektime 21

yes,

concerning your other questions. windows will boot faster, 100% sure of that, but if normal usage will be faster, can't tell you that

i don't know about now, but i know some people who have some problems with theire raptor and nf7-s

in 90% procent off the time when they boot, the get this screen: "One or more disks need to be checked for consistancy....", then he performs a diskcheck on 1 or more partitions, the pc reboots and starts win with no problems

current drive pêrforms a bit higher then an ata 66 drive with 1mb cache and 4200 rpm

I don't care for boot times, it's quite often used for unrarring too
(big files, 1-2 gb)

extracting = alot of read/write, so access times are important = high RPM is the way to go..

They are véry fast, you will see a difference!

Anyway, if you replace your ibm, how much you ask for it? (considering you don't need it anymore.)
I need not-too-bih harddisks for my (game)servers :)

Yup, noticeably faster (boot time is the same as the sata bios is loaded).
Single sata = no problem.

It will be indeed faster. Aso your caching done on the drive will speed up, wich gives a rather nice boost.
Rest's been said already.

so I should give it a go :)

another question about those raptor drives; I find them kinda expensive, are they worth the price? (compared to other SATA drives)

if you want speed: prolly
if you need (fast) storage: prolly not (yet)

(expensive is relative tho)
