Default New setup, what to buy ?

tjow,

weekly pc change

Nog I have a Athlon XP, running at 12.5*175 fsb, that's ~2170 Mhz.
And I have A Radeon 9700 Pro. Setup scores just over 15 k in 3d mark, but I can't play far cry on very High detail, on a decent resolution (1024*768). Time for an upgrade.

in my humble opinion I'm missing some cpu power.
So I was wondering what to buy now?
My budget is around 300 €, for the mainboard and CPU.

A prescot + mobo ? Problem is, I will be overclicking, but I want i cooled with silent aircooling. No prescot huh ?

A64 (3000+) and Nforce3 based board ?

Or do you have a other suggestion ?

for € 300's you already have a powerful A64 setup.

My advice is you go (again ) for the A64 with an Nforce3 mobo.

hmm, and wil it be affordable for ~300 € ? That's another question.

And 2 months is long... Last 2 months I had: A64, AXP, laptop, dual 2000+, epia, and back AXP

your point being?

P4 @ 2.6 here with R9700Pro is able to play FarCry without problems... just make sure you got enough ram

On 1024*768 (at least) and MAX detail ?

I can now play it at 1024*.. and medium detail, still nice of course, but I've seen "very high" detail. With 10 fps or something.

You think the upgrade from 256 to 512 or maybe even 768 (in case of AMD setup) or 1024 in case of intel setup, would give a big difference, while playing ? Loading times don'te really matter overehere so..

if you don't have enough memory, the system will use the HD swapfile for loading game content. During the game you will have pauses because of this.

My XP 1800+ @ 2200MHz Runs farcry @ max quality exept AA (one notch down).
I do have 1GB of RAM and a 9800XT. Personally for this game, a graphics card does a lot. Since That's what's keeping me from going 6AA without problems (graphics run stock)

If you want a CPU-mobo, S939 is indeed a very worthy wait.
