New PSU for Media PC I have a busted PSU in my media center that needs replacement. It's an AMD sempron AM2, 1 IDE hard drive, 1 IDE CD rom, onboard video, and I'm planning to add a TV card. I was using a 350W Aopen PSU, no nothing powerfull is needed. No need for PCI-e connectors, SATA is nice but not for the moment. I was looking around, and found the following options at the same price: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 370W OCZ StealthXstream 400W Corsair CMPSU-400CX Zalman ZM360B-APS Wich would I choose, sound being the largest issue, quality next. Or are there any other I might concider, that are available in or around Antwerp ;) |
Maybe this coolermaster modular PSU mate, to avoid cable clutter in ya small case http://www.bytesatwork.be/shop/produ...cat=521&page=1 |
It's a standard microtower, so I don't need modular, more than enough space to put extra cables. I might as well save me the extra €20 |
any cheap budget PSU will do then for ya.. I just prefer a brand with a good reputation (Corsair, enermax,...) and preferably 3years or more warranty... as I never know in which rig the PSU will end up... I like to have good amps on the 12 volt rails and decent build quality... might be funny but if a PSU already feels heavy that's a good sign as the cheapos are light as a feather |
I'd like some quality, so I'm still doubting between these two OCZ StealthXstream 400W Corsair CMPSU-400CX OCZ has a bigger fan, 140mm. But corsair are said to be more quiet. |
Well i don't think they will spin up much as your pc doesn't require ooomphs of power... I 've build several xstreams from the 500 and 600w model and to me they were very silent too... think the GFX fan was the loudest part |
No GFX fan, no CPU fan. Only a 120mm casefan (7V) + duct over CPU and the PSU fan Well the included 350W aopen did a good job, if I forced it to 7V operation. So a decent PSU should do the job just fine. I'll probably go for the OCZ. Corsair advertising "extra long cables" on their website kinda did it for me, as I don't need those :p (most towers don't anyway) |
I got a Silencer 400W refurbished from PCPower&Coling 6-years ago and gave it away two years ago it's still running a friend's PC and remains VERY silent. I would go with PCPower&Cooling, I consider them the most stable, best service and best over all build quality. |
