new case & PSU well, I've made up my mind. I have a fileserver at home, and a PC at my dorm that's only used for FTP (and atm thermal paste testing). I'm going to put my desktop in a big nice BTX case, throw al the HDD's in it and sell the rest. too much HW that's not used enough. so I need some advice on a few things: - the case! must be BTX and ATX compliant. I love to see the CPU at the bottom of the case, default 120MM fans, ducting etc o: something alu perhaps. stylish but NOT fancy (ghey pre-modded illuminated fans, pre-modded window bs,...) - PSU needs to juice an OC'ed 2500+, 3 80 GB drives, one 120GB drive, one 160GB drive and a Ti4200 no fancy stuff... price/quality - external 5.25" USB/firewire device. so I can carry the 160 GB ATA drive (in a removable rack) around anywhere. right now the desktop @ my dorm is only used to host the files I transport from home on that 160GB HDD. I don't have a clue about brands, pricing nor quality. enlighten me :) - a PCI IDE card, perhaps a RAID5 card. what offers good speed? I'd like to put 3 80 GB HDD's in RAID5, together with 80GB of my 120GB SATA HDD (so 4 partitions, each on a different drive, in RAID5). this would work fine with Linux, but it's NOT readable. I might buy a PCI RAID5 IDE card, but then I have to trade my 120GB SATA with a 80GB ATA and use a crappy FAT partition. what can I do with this? :/ main use is file and backup server on a gigabit LAN. when I want to play games, I need to go into windows and then I need to access those files. at LAN parties I can't reboot and load windows every time I want to game.... |
