Need to spend money... and quick! Three months ago my second hand R8500 broke down after 1 hour of use, and I'm getting sick of waiting for my warranty. So, I want to by a CHEAP 3D card which can replace my ol' GF1 DDR for the time being. Budget: +- 200€, but less == better Which one to choose? R8500LE => 115€ (+17€), good product, POWERCOLOR (has some good ATI products) and extremely low price. Ti4200 Leadtek 64Mb TV-out/DVI => 163€ (+€17), good brand & low price Ti4200 PNY 64Mb TV-out/DVI => 170€ (+€17), lifetime warranty, pretty PCB and mem heatsinks Or should I wait a bit longer? Is 50€ extra worth getting a Ti4200 instead of a R8500LE...? Is anyone going to order @ funcomputer.de the next few days? :) |
Hold on to your horses the Launch of ATI's new products will force a price drop on all the current GF4/ATI vidcards :) I will go for a nVidia card though drivers probs extreme with R8500 :( |
Urge... to... buy... rising... must... resist. :) You think the GF4 Ti4200 will drop in price after the release of the 9700? The 9500 is supposed to be ATI's alternative to the 4200, but that won't be available in Belgium for months. :'( My brother has had an ATI "build by ati" and an ATI "build by HIS", he had only driver probs with the latter. Which brand is your R8500? Powercolor is supposed to be a reasonable good brand (outperforms the "build by ati" cards significantly). |
What about the Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4200 Golden sample? |
Far too expensive! The 64Mb model is crap (no DVI, bad mem) & expensive (185€) and the 128Mb "Golden Sample" is priced like a Ti4400! (270€, I can get a Asus Ti4400DT for that!). |
yes the prices will drop just because ATI doesn't get the card here in B, doesn't mean you can't shop in Germany :) |
indeed, funcomputer got the R 9000 in their pricelist. I would go for the Ti 4200, good to OC :) |
Yes, but the 9700 will force Nvidia to drop the price of the 4600/4400, but not the 4200 since it's a totally different market (600€ vs. sub 200€...). Some-one wants to give €50 for my GF1 DDR + crystal orb, but he wants it now. So taken that into consideration, i think it's not a bad moment (for me) to buy a card... BTW, what happend to the GF3 Ti200 which was supposed to be in the give-away? Is it completely broken? |

It's a shame to have a fine card collecting dust. :D If it's fixable I'm willing to buy it. |
you can come pick it up try to fix it if it works -> how much are you willing to lay down? |

if you need a new one/the fix don't work, go for the cheapest ti4200 from the above... it won't go much lower, maximum 20 euro -30 euro down... so for that minor amount of money it's not worth waiting... |
Seems like 128Mb is too expensive. Cheapest model incl shipping is > 200€. I think you're right Calantak, the cheapest Ti4200 will drop maybe 20~30€ next month, but that's not really worth waiting. @JMke, I'd be willing to give 70~80€ for it, but since I haven't got the time to drop by nor to fix it, I'll pass... I can fix it for free for you in September if you want. :) |
that would be awesome :super: keeping you to that promise :) |
No problemo ;) If I haven't been struck by common sense by tomorrow, I'll prolly buy the PNY. :king: Edit: Made up my mind and placed an order for a XFX GF4 Ti4200 64Mb. It gets 95% @icrontic and costs only 159€! :o |
Ive got the same card (xfx) And it works very well got it to 310/590 without any extra cooling :) why do people want a 128mb card anyway??? Its only usefull if you have like an 22 inch ore higher monitor and want to run at very very high resolutions. Well ,I seposse its the same as always MARKETING The more mb the more sales where do you get them so cheap?????? ive payed mine 195 euro |
|
XFX GF4 Ti4200 64Mb 159€ @ http://www.selecticom.de/ 128Mb is more futer-proof for Doom3 & Unreal 2003, but I upgrade +- every 6months so i'm not going to spend an extra 40€ for the 128Mb model. |
"XELO GF4 Ti4200 64Mb Tv-out / DVI" for only 149€ @funcomp. Awesome price, but I've never heard of that brand... should I take the risk? Found 0 reviews, and 0 pics, only a pic of their GF4 Ti4400 (which looks ok to me). http://funcomputer.de/default.php?pa...&a rtnr=06946 http://www.xelo.net/grafik.php Their GF4 4400: |
probably just reference design in a custom made carton box :) |
|
huh ??? you got to be kidding right ? |
pretend as if you received the ti4200.. :D |
houden die kaartjes |
Hehe, gotcha :p I received 2 Ti4200 and 1 Ti4600 BOX, but in the latter box was an ordenary Ti4200. Damnit! Thought i was very, very lucky for a second. :) The boxes were poorly packaged though: 2 boxes were damaged: one card seems to be fine, but the other is DOA. :( Third box seems undamaged so I'll leave the testing over to the buyer. It seem to be very, very decent cards though! Looks like the one that's working runs at 330|580 with stock cooling and without artifacts. 580 Is not that special (rams run hot, maybe cool them?), but 330 stock cooled is far above 4600 standards. Yippie! :) |
nice oc :) to bad for the DOA. |

€17 DOA => apply for RMA or just ship it back? |
you must fill in a form on their website. than you will get an RMA number. Quote:

Card wasn't dead after all, I just wasn't socketed well in the AGP slot... /me n00b :) |
:^D could happen :) |
Max OC w/o artifacts: My card: 325|585 Other one: ? | 595 Didn't test the GPU oc on the other one, because it isn't mine, but these are great OC's for such budget cards! :^) |
ff offtopic, how did they manage to keep the fan running of that ti4400 on the pic? |
