Looking for the FASTEST HD out there for normal humans.
 

I am looking for a new main HD. It has to be at least 40+ gig, for mainly an OS and a few games... I have a decent 160 for most other games, backup, etc. I would like it smaller than the 160 for doing full backups to the 160. I am seriously looking at the WD Raptor, in the 74gig trim, but I'm open to suggestions. I prefer WD, as I have had sterling luck with them, but again, I'm looking for alternatives.


Any ideas?

I'm running an ASUS KV8 Deluxe, with the SATA and IDE setup... will I have a problem running the 160 on IDE and the Raptor on SATA?

No there won't be any problems when u use IDE and SATA together.

and the Raptor is the fastest HD (if u don't look at SCSI drives)

hands down the WD740 raptor disks.

raptor 74 is undoubtedly very very fast.
I own two raptor 74 and 1 36.7 and both perform admirably

hardware.info tested a number of HDD's a while ago and the difference between most disks and the 36gig raptor wasn't that stunning but the 74gig raptor really blew the competition away, even the 36gig raptor trailed behind by quite a bit.

Raptor 74 all the way, use it for games partition here and game loading times have HALVED compared to maxtor 120gb

raptor hdd 's are by far the fastest, i couldnt recommend one more
