Last few questions before purchase....

Within the next 2 days i think Ill be finaly purchasing this sytem. Ive decided against any via chipset. So, once again its socket 939 vs socket 754. Either socket 754, Msi k8n neo plati3num with athlon 64 3400. Or 939 Msi k8n neo2 platinum with athlon 64 3500 130nm. Right now Im thinking the 754 setup. It is like 80 dollars cheaper. And is there realy 80 dollars difference in performance? I dont care about fututre upgrading so that doesnt matter. Now, to a different question. I was going to buy a wd 120 gb ide drive. Now Im looking at seagate because they have a 5 year warranty. But I could get either sata or ide. Is there a difference in performance? but they do have this barracuda drive thats supposed to be faster...here, take a look. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...148-022&depa=0

Also, would either of these mobos support this ncq thing?

Thanks guys!

there is, sata is mutch more stable @ transfering data.average its about 20mb/s faster then ide.

uhm, I notice NO speed different between PATA/SATA drives.

Idd, there's (almost) no speeddifference between PATA and SATA, because the drive self isn't fast enough to trasfer +133Mb/s . The interface isn't a bottleneck here, it's the drive.

Now, about the socket question.
S939 has the advantage having dual channel and, there are cpu available in .90nm flavor.
But, you've chosen for 2 cpu's running at the same speed (2200Mhz) but with different caches (1Mb for 3400+ and 512k for 3500+).
So, since you don't care about upgradeability, dual channel isn't that much faster for the A64, S745 is cheaper, I'd go for the S745

Thanks guys. My friend strongly reccomended WD so i went with their 160 gb drive (IDE). The 120 wasnt in stock. I ordered the 754 system just a few minutes ago. K8n neo platinum and retail athlon 64 3400. I went with the stock heatsink because my buddy said as long as i dont oc it should work fine. Plus, he said my 6 case fans should help alot to. He is going to send me some arctic 5 thermal paste or something though. Thanks for all the help guys!

Actualy the 3400 Im getting is the newcastle core. Operates at 2.4 I think. 512 cache.

You should of fone with the socket 939 and a 3200 winchester which would of been about the same price of a 754 and a 3400.

I dont see how that one is faster though. Because all the reviews I saw on it werent fair. They all downclocked the other processors to 2 gig. I think Ill be happy with what Im getting. Actualy it would be about 50 dollars more anyway.
