I need help

I started for the first time collecting hardware to make my own pc. At this moment I found already a lot but I am interested because it's my first time if everthing is good and will work good.

This is what I found already

ni8 sli
2 times nforce4 sli x16
3 times Seagate 250GB SATA
4 times 512Mb 533Hz
intel pentium d 830 3.0 Ghz
Logitech G15 Gaming
logitech mx 510 performance

I am searching for a good psu but I don't know witch to go with.

Because I have the SUNBEAM ACRYL CASE I search a psu with connectors on the case of the psu, so I can make my own cables to connect.

So My question is "simple" : witch psu Should I choose and is the rest of the configuration alright?

jmke 26th October 2005 15:53

what do you want to do with your PC? I see no videocard in your config...

Barri 28th October 2005 09:03

nforce 4 sli x16 s a videocard, I put him twice to work with SLI

agent #2 28th October 2005 11:45

nforce 4 SLI is a chipset which has 2 PCIe x16 slots where you can put geforce cards in.

Example of a geforce card is a 6800GT or 7800GTX.

jmke 28th October 2005 12:07

yes, there's a videocard missing from your config:)

nForce4 is the motherboard

The Senile Doctor 28th October 2005 14:25

psu : OCZ 600watt. and never look back.

if you want to use an sli setup, make your cpu worthwhile, this kind of shitty cpu can't hold up with dual vidcards... getting one 7800 gtx or two won't make any difference in a cpu-bound rig....
at least get an a64 or X2 with over 2.4ghz, that should trash that 3.0 ghz intel. and why the hell three 250 gb sata's???
get one raptor 74 for OS and one 400 gb seagate as backup, you'll have enough space and more speed in everyday work

Barri 28th October 2005 14:26

D'oh

sorry guys, that proves I am just a beginner

So I need a videocard and a psu, what do you suggest

along with the videocard do I get the bridge to connect the videocards in sli configuration or do I have to buy it seperatly

Thx for helping so far

agent #2 28th October 2005 14:40

How much would you like to spend to your graka(s)?

Barri 28th October 2005 14:41

Thx for the help so far

motherboard ni8 sli
videocards twice 6600 gt
4 times 512Mb 533Hz
intel pentium d 830 3.0 Ghz
3 times Seagate 250GB SATA (1 for movie's, 1 for games and 1 for work)

Logitech G15 Gaming
logitech mx 510 performance

Is this configuration compleet ?
Except for the psu, what do you guys suggest? I thought acryl with cable managment system. can I find that with more than 500 w

PS sorry for my english but it is my third language

Rutar 28th October 2005 14:43

Do you already have that stuff or do you plan to buy it?

because there is lots and lots of room for optimisation

Barri 28th October 2005 14:44

senile doctor,

pentium 830 D is a dual core processor of 3.0 Ghz. Friends of me who should know it told me it was fast enough

Barri 28th October 2005 14:48

I haven't bought anything yet

I have just a case at the moment and a budget between 1800
and 2200€

agent #2 28th October 2005 15:05

I'd take 1 6800Gt instead of 2 6600GT's.
Why?

Rutar 28th October 2005 21:19

2200 euros o_O, that's a lot of money

Asus 7800GTX TOP
Asus Premium NF4 board
4400+ A64 X2
AC A64 Freezer
2x1GD PC3200 Kingston or Corsair Value Ram
2x400GB of the new Seagate HDs (series 9) or Samsung Spinpoints in sufficent capacity, raid is personal preference
Tagan U15 480W or Seasonic S12
Razer Exactmat

for a work only PC: MX1000 duo mouse and keyboard, that special audiophile soundcard that I just forgot =P

for a gaming and working pc: Logitech gamer keyboard and either the Logitech G5 or the Razer Copperhead, Creative X-FI

Maybe some better casefans, I do not know what you currently have and which size they are. As already said, you might want to wait for the 512MB Nvidia cards.

jmke 28th October 2005 21:28

stay away from Creative soundcards please:)

AMD has surpassed Intel in several professional applications too and then there is the heat problem and the power consumption and the fact that didn't got dualcore done right

Barri 1st November 2005 11:40

I Searched for a new configuration, So I ask your apinion again

The memory doesn't work on the motherbord. Use DDR instead.

Barri 1st November 2005 13:11

Is it possible that the motherboards for AMD don't go higher than 400 Mhz for memory and that they don't support DDR2

I liked the specs of the memory should that mean I have to change motherboard or Is it impossibele to use these kinds with amd

agent #2 1st November 2005 13:15

For now, you can not use this type of memory on an AMD platform.
You should get 2*1024 DDR pc3200 (if you don't overclock you better get valueram).

Barri 1st November 2005 15:06

I Changed already a lot to what I had in mind but I think it will be be a much better pc this way.

Is everthing now compatible and will this work good for gaming?

Thx to everyone who's helping

DUR0N 1st November 2005 15:56

two 7800's maybe? ;D

jmke 1st November 2005 16:07

one 7800GT >>> 2x6800GT
stick with one GPU if possible

Rutar 3rd November 2005 00:54

take a Seasonic 500W PSU, that is more than enough for a single GTX

also get the new G5 gaming mouse from Logitech
