Geforce Graphics Wich one to buy Hey Shrimps, back after a looong time of exams. And now, i have to call in your field-expertise again! Not for me, but for one of my dear family members. He's going to buy a new pc, mainly based on my setup. A pentium 4 +- 3 Ghz Sata Maxtor Drives etc... I'm not planning to overclock this pc, i just want to make sure he's got a piece of quality wich he can use for a long time (and no "makro"-POS he has now). Problem is, when i bought my pc, i filled it with lots of goodies, one of them a "Gainward Geforce 4 TI 4200 Powerpack, Golden-overclock-me-sample". In these days all was simple for me, you had the "MX" series, wich were no good, and the TI series, wich were the crème de la crème of Nvidia-ness. Now, i have to select a card for my nephew, but i'm confused, there's LE, FX a Geforce 6 and 5 series (5*00 and 6*00). And none of them seems to have the reasonable price of +- 200 € I bought my TI for. So anyone wants to advise me on a good, decent, non-overclock, Geforce card? +- 200 € Thanks in advance shrimps, it's good to be back :) |
Well, after the GF4, came the GF5, called the FX5*** . They started giving them code, like the XT, LE, ... In nVidia term, the XT is the budget model, then you get the normal model (no code), then the GT, and then the ultra. For the GF6 (or 6*** series), the XT has been replaced w/ the LE. Hope this is somewhat correct (it is confusing). Ok, for E200, you can get a R9800PRO or a 6600GT. For about E250, you can get the 6800LE and for just no E300 you can get a normal 6800. //edit; prices are based on german prices, but it won't be that much more over here |
6800 LE can be bought for ~209 € in a dutch shop, forcom.be ;) |
but is is a budget model? (MX = LE), pretty expensive budget model! |
it's the budget model of a high-end graphic chip, that's what makes it expensive. Real budget is a R9200 or a 6200, but those aren't made for gaming. |
6800LE is pretty fast, 6600GT is fast also , or a 2nd hand 9800Pro |
