Default FINALLY silence

dba ratings just cannot show the difference between the stock cooler and the X2

I can't believe how I survived that whiner fan so long.

I can actually hear the 120mm fans now at 1000RPM, but it's a very low humming

A bit more background information might always be useful

there aren't too many cards that can fit an x2

it's an x1800XT where some people seriously say the stock cooler is good

67 degrees load, with fan at 100%, not much burned in yet

try to change the fanspeed; see if makes the core much hotter... got some promising results here with X1 and 7800GT.

I will try after I burned it in a little. However the fanspeed does not seem to make it less quiet (can't say louder)

on the X1 the different fan speeds (25/50/100% through rivatuner) doesn't impact performance much, and in my notes so far I've written "no difference changing fan speed at all audible". Will still have to do ye old "fan next to ear" test

I would guess you got more background noise. It's audible but I need to focus on it.

so far, I think the paste should be burned in enough so it does not have too much impact:

50%: 70° after 20 minutes
77%: 66° after 10 minutes
100%: 65° after 10 minutes

all done with ATI tool

I would say, airflow becomes a bottleneck once you overvolt and overclock the card. Just as with the V1 vs V1 Ultra (1 more heatpipe) results we had in that French GPU cooler review, the bottleneck at stock is getting the heat away from the core with heatpipes.
