DVD 8x media I'm the new lucky owner of a Plextor 8x DVDwriter, what HQ media is recommended to write at this speed? I thought of ordering these http://shop.cdfreaks.com/index/2/2/4/207 Quote:
€1.40 / disc |
The price seems great, but isn't it risky to use unprinted dvd's? 3/4th of my 2 year old unprinted cd-r's are unreadable due to scratches. : / Or are you planning to label them? |
I have over 300 unbranded CDr's, some over 5 years old, the all still work flawlessly, high quality medium it is, can burn at max. writer speed (48x) without problem, also came from romstore/cdfreaks.be I don't label my media, just use a permenant marker. |
well maybe this? http://www.pctools.be (the promotion) don't have a clue if princo is an A class medium. (platinum and no-name suck btw, all my media > 1year is almost unreadable :( ) |
"Up to 4x speed" :/ |
Offtopic, I know, but question : What would be the cheapest place to buy a DVD writer + price? ( preferably 8x ) And what's the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R? I know they are just 2 standards, seperate media, but are they readable by all DVD drives? I find the LiteOn at 130€ very tempting, but is it worth it to wait for the 8x to become cheaper? How long does it take to write a dvd with your plextor, jmke? Thx! And again sorry for offtopic... |
I bought my Plextor @ www.pctools.be , it's €235 + €15 rembours shipping. quite competitively priced |
Mitsui and Tayio Yuden have a good rep and check this out: http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/...ssages/815668/ |
thanks Da_Boka! I've ordered the no-name ones, I'll keep you guys posted on how it performs :) |
darn, could have used some too ... |
want 50%? because there are 100 discs coming my way :) I still need some good DVD+/-RW discs |

Another question, on site it says they don't work with stocks, so how long did you have to wait before you got it? thx! |
50 DVD-R's is too much, sorray got a new P4 to fund ... i'll see what i can do :) |
We got sony RW, probably - but I'll have to check. Also TDX DVD+/-R |

they had one in stock :) |
nice CDr performance |
but it shines when writing to DVD :) used a Sony DVD+R 4x disc, was unable to read it afterwards in an older Aopen 16X DVD :/ the plextor is very silent, compared to other CD/CDRW/DVD drives I've been using :ws: |
+3 mins @ 40x cdr write? Isn't that kind of a lot? In the tests that I've read the drive burns an image of 700 meg in 2.50 mins... Dito for DVD-R, shouldn't it be about 8 minutes? Or is it because of the 4x media? I'm considering that drive too, looks really great. Still not sure though, new 8x Lite-on looks really nice too and is priced a lot lower. ( +/- 180 € ) |
I was working on the PC at the same time, doing pretty disk & cpu intensive tasks, explains the higher times, but is still pretty good in my book :) the long DVD recording is due indeed to the plextor reverting back to 4x recording I guess http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Arti...08A&ind ex=11 |
100 DVD's are on their way, shipped to me today! @ work a new sony DRX-510ULK arrived external writing power! |
external, like in: oops it slipped into my bag :D |
more like in: 450 people know it is supposed to be there and is used daily. that kinda oops :p |
hm, 19 minutes for a dvd-r is NOT good, I burn mine at < 14 minutes (on 4x). @ jmke: could u fix the link of your first post (can't find the exact type) coz I'm interested in buying a part of it, if the offer is still standing |
the product is no longer listed it seems. I'm going to have to use all discs, sorry :/ I found the problem. if I write @ 4x: 13min if I write @ 8x: 19min... going to change my HD layout, too many HD's connected to one little PCI IDE card, slows down the whole PC. I'm going to back up my 3x maxtor 120gb. That's why I need all them DVDs. |
HDs rearranged + found at why plextor was in PIO4 mode, on older models you had to put a jumper to enable UDMA, on this one you have to remove it. :hello: |
|
CDr writing: starts at 3200Kb/s and ends after 2min20 at about 7200kb/s 100mbit lan keeping it up :) |
