CPU Temp's

I bought the Max 3 and the 3.0E 1mb L2 (SL79L) 4 month ago, and the temp where idle 54-58 load was 62 or so, all the sudden i got alarm on temp's 86.3 degree !!! no dirt in the heatsink (Stock) then i modded an Athlon Aerocool DP 102 with 2xpapst 80mm fans to the P4 and the temp's got down to about 72 idle and load 77-79.5 degree ,now after swithin back and forth with coolers and CPU's (exclusion methode) im on 67.5 idle and 72 load (Live For Speed Windowed) and Abit EQ running, what would u guy's
suggest, what is wrong with my mobo or cpu ???? plz help

BTW i have updated my BIOS i won 6 degree by doing that

This small temp swing is next to impossible for any P4 using air cooling. I'd say your temp has been running high at the very beginning; just you did not notice.

Don't forget Abit P4 boards report higher than actual temp by a few degrees C, while Asus reports a few lower than actual. If the system is running stable, I trust the temp is wrong.

Alternative is to use external temp probe.

what do you mean with next to impossible with this small temp swing ???

kristos 24th September 2004 23:06

the difference between idle-load temps is to small, it can't be correct...

Sidney 24th September 2004 23:21

15 to 20 degree C swing is normal for any P4 with air cooling; Somtimes higher depending on heatsink fan used. You indicated a 4 to 8 degrees change from idle to load sounds incorrect, particularly with Prescott core you are using.:D

Now i got som screen dumps from idle and load temp's

Bono 24th September 2004 23:45

Now the load temp

The Senile Doctor 25th September 2004 00:15

please use combination of f@h/prime95 for load temps on a hyperthreaded cpu, and use them for 15-20 minutes simultaneously for load temp, a game mostly is no more then 40-45% cpuload on a hyperthreaded cpu
for idle wait ten minutes with no apps running.

Bono 25th September 2004 00:23

Ok :)

You can download Prime95 here - http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

After install, go to option under "CPU" and "Preference" for ram and log setup.

Torture test for 15-30 minutes like calantak said.

I hope you have good case ventilation with Prescott.:)
