Budget PC +/- 1000 €

I'm composing a PC for my brother that may cost +/- 1000 euro. We're getting all the parts from azerty.nl. I can't choose between 2 setups, which gives the best value for the money? Remarks about particular hardware parts are also welcome.

My brother doesn't want to overclock, the machine just has to be fast and be able to play the latest games.

AMD-config

total cost: 1006 €

Intel-config

total cost: 1033 €
(an alternative for the msi mobo is maybe the Asrock ConRoe945G-DVI, which costs 30 € less. It's a mATX mobo but there's no need for lots of PCI slots and stuff.)

I would consider 2GB RAM if you are into multi-tasking and gaming. The extra cost will be worth the speed increase in my humble opinion

the 7600GT will not allow you to play the newest game in high detail at the native resolution of that 19" TFT (1280x1024) but slightly older games will be fine. In newer games details will have to be turned down.

I think you could be the first person to test if our value guide (WIP) is understandable.

I would like to email it to you to see what comes out if you use it to build a system.

As you can see, now i'm taking 2 sticks of the cheap PQI memory and cut some prices on other parts due to the recommendations of the guide and advice by my brother.

The case and PSU aren't 'budget', but my brother wants a good, solid looking desktop-case so the LC17 was the best choice i think.

I replaced the MSI P965 mobo by AsRock C945G because this mobo fills all his needs, like more than 2 PCI-slots aren't necessary.

I skipped the disk-drive because we don't use it anymore. I also skipped the AC Freezer, if the box cooling won't satisfy, he will buy it afterwards.

I replaced the BenQ by a Samsung SATA dvd-rw as told in the guide.

The T3030 speakers are replaced by simple 2.0 speakers which saves 20 €, my brother feels no need for a subwoofer.

The HD, GFX and monitor remained the same.

To answer your recommendations, jmke: my brother has never been used to high details, the last years he's been playing on a GF2MX and a GF3Ti, so i think he will be pleased with his 7600 GT
;)
