Ati or Nvidia Graphics Card?

This is the question i have been asking for weeks now. I'm sick of my crappy Radeon 9200 128mb card. I've seen a Creative Nvidia FX5600 XT (link = http://uk.europe.creative.com/produc...rod=552&page=1 ) for £70 which seemed a good deal. Would I be able to overclock this card or is there a similar card that is better to overclock. I only really want to pay £80 or £90 quid max for a card.

Thanks

Mak

don't go for the 5600XT !! it is slower then the FX5600,
you are best of with the FX5700 / Ultra, or a 9600 / Pro

jep, 5600XT is slow, only 6000 3DMarks on a XP2500+.

get a 2nd handed ti4200

Makaveli7 25th February 2004 17:34

is there much of a difference between the 5700 ultra and 9600 pro performance wise? also i thourght the ti4200 was quite old, will it still do for doom3 etc?

make your choise, pay more for a better card or pay 80-80£ and don't play doom 3

That's just B/S. Just don't expect to play it with all the eye candy, that's true. I doubt even a 9800XT or FX5950 will do that without any hickups.
But since he is comming from a 9200, he probably wasn't expecting that in the first place.

I ment 100% eye candy. It will run doom and HL (erm 3 and 2 resp. off course :p)

Freestyler is right. I just don't think £300 (€390)+ is worth it for a graphics card when the rest of my computer cost around £250 (€325). Ati have had the 9800xt on the market a long while now and although its a great card they'll be a better one out soon. Hopefully then the 9800xt will get cheaper and i'll pick one up on ebay cheap.
Just found a Radeon9700Pro 128MB DDR AGP VO for £150. any good?

jmke 26th February 2004 18:32

please state price in € :-)
I'm guessing that £ 150 is too much

9700Pro 2nd hand should be around ~€200

Makaveli7 26th February 2004 21:43

sorry jmke. £150 is about €230. so as usual as a British citizen im getting ripped off. sooner we join the euro the better, but thats a whole different issue. think i'm going to try and get a 9600xt as they aren't too expensive. where do u guys get ur components as i may be able to save a bit of cash and get a better card?
