msi's k8n neo plat is a very good board

only problems with that asus is that it looks like it shafts you out of the native sata conns, which are alot faster than the add-on chip ports

it also denys you the use of a windowed case

was that a k8n pro nf3-150? or the k8ns pro nf3-250?

the Southbridge on this motherboard is passive cooled, temps go up in the 50-60°C region in a 25-30°C env.

adding a fan drops the temp to 45°C and less

anybody know how hot the SB temp can get for it too cause problems?

Our own Fluke 65 Infrared Thermometer recorded Southbridge temperatures around 100 degrees Fahrenheit on mildly overclocked systems.

Don't know how true this is.

well, seeing as it gets up to 60°C with a heatsink over here... :)

NB or SB?

jmke 4th August 2004 10:13

does the A64 have a NB? :)

easypanic 4th August 2004 11:38

eum,

yes?

Via has one, Nforce chipsets don't have one.

ah, thanks for that, /me A64 n00b and proud of it :)

MSI K8N Neo does not have NB, so it's my SB that comes close to 60°C

don't you just love this, install the system into a case and it doesn't POST, install it on the box outside a case and it works flawlessly. yippie :/
