amd sempron?

I'm an AMD nut, and I know quite a bit about my AMD AthlonXP 2500+ but when did Semprons come on the scene and are they any good? I'm about to build a pc for a mate and noticed these, so should I go for Athlon or Sempron?

Athlon > Sempron

Sempron is the new Duron

:)

Makaveli7 26th August 2004 22:20

so its exactly the same, same pins, and compatible with the same boards?

jmke 26th August 2004 22:28

"normally" it shouldn't be a problem, maybe need to flash your board for proper CPU detection.

think i'll just go for a athlon xp-mobile 2500+, more L2 cache

RichBa5tard 26th August 2004 23:25

Aren't those mobiles priced at +- 100 euro's? Wouldn't it be better to spend an extra 40 euro and go with a A64 instead?

Tarantula 26th August 2004 23:52

and an extra 100€ for mobo :p

RichBa5tard 26th August 2004 23:56

What are you talking about? You can pick up a fully featured Biostar NF3 250GB powered A64 motherboard for 80 euro, or a Asrock A64 for 70, or an Abit KT800 Pro for 95, or...

Makaveli7 27th August 2004 00:36

not quite ready for 64bit. Anyway I thought with PCI Express coming out I may well just wait as I would need new Gfx card, RAM, CPU and mobo for it and 2 huge overhauls in 1 year is just too much
