Upgrade advice ( cooling )

Next month I'm going to upgrade my puter a bit :

AMD XP 2800+, Barton Core 333MHz FSB

EPOX 8RDA3+

2 x TWINMOS DDR 512MB 400Mhz PC3200 ( dual channel )

2 x SEAGATE 80GB 8MB SATA (7200/150) Barracuda V ( Raid 0 )

CHIEFTEC DRAGON Maxi met deur SILVER met extra case fan DA-01SL-D No Psu

THERMALRIGHT SLK 800U

I'll use the system for a little bit of everything, gaming, internet, programming, ... etc. It wil NOT be overclocked!

Question : Which fan should I use on the SLK? My system has to be as QUIET as possible, because my current rig is working on my nerves. ( Zalman heatpipe already installed on graka, epox has passive NB and SB cooling, nice and quiet seagate drives, big case, lotsa airflow )

Will the Papst NGML suffice for the 2800+? I've heard that these are only good for case cooling... What will be temps with NGML?

Thx in advance !

*updated to English, sorry :D *

Please post in english. :)

I'd rather buy a papst NGM to cool your XP2800+, a NGML will not suffice unless you've got great casecooling. A NGM is pretty silent, and far better quality than the Tt "coolmod fan", it won't vibrate as hard.

Don't get the seagater sata drives, they pretty much suck. Get the maxtor sata drives, they're much, much faster.

Pal 8045 + Papst NGM = 52°C stressed on a not-oc'ed 2600+ ... with silent casefans

I would suggest you take a virtual noiseless PAPST 3412NGL 92mm 35.9CFM (1950RPM) and a SLK 900u.

According to this review the Seagates perform quite good in Raid 0? I read that the Maxtors still make quite a lot of noise, so they are not an option ;)

Where can I find the PAPST 3412NGL 92mm 35.9CFM (1950RPM) in stock? ( for next month ) I was shopping @ Tones and I can't find it over there.

LOL
Oops
:^D

Stupid thing is, I AM actually wearing glasses...

Will that 92mm make less noise than the thermaltake fan i'm currently using?

But they're not in stock, damn...
Guess I'll just have to order it in time then.

So what do you think about the seagates? You think they're going to be an improvement over my IBM? ( sound / speed... )
They don't have to be the fastest drives around, but HDD is loudest component of my current system I think...

Greetz...

If you want silence, take Baracuda 4's, I know shops that say the Bara 5 is much louder

Correct - have them both, but the 5-series are still very quiet though

Best option (if money is no problem) would be to buy the fastest HD and stick it in the 5" bay in a silencing box.

I wish... :o

I'm not going above a 1000 €, so I think I'll keep it plain and simple with 2 Cuda 5 SATA's... ( It's not like they're gonna be slower than my current setup right? )

I think that I'll be having problems with cable length when I use 5.25" silencing boxes. ( Maxi tower )

Cooling conclusion :

Thermalright SLK 900U + PAPST 3412NGL 92mm 35.9CFM (1950RPM)

Anyone know resulting temps??

PS : Does the SLK 900 fit the EPOX 8RDA3+? According to Thermalright's page it fits the 8RDA+, so I guess fitting it on the 8RDA3+ won't be a problem either?

Thx for all the replies and keep 'em coming ! :ws:

personally, i find the cuda 5 more silent than the cuda 4.

@tremor911: the sisoft & hdtach benchmarks of the Cuda 5 S-ATA you showed pretty much suck...

They're not horrible, but not faster than the average P-ATA drive either and 50% more expensive. If the Maxtor S-ATA drive is as silent as the diamondmax plus 9 (not sure about that), it's a clear winner. There are only 2 decent S-ATA drives on the market right now: the 10k rpm WD raptor and the 7.2k Maxtor.
