| A64 and P5 are truly unique down the road AMD does not own chipset manufacturing; Intel has a lot of cash and owns chipset manufacturing, looking down the road it will be very interesting to see who will hold the tech front. Intel: Pros 1) New chipset handles wireless broadband. 2) DDR2 3) PCI e. 4) Holding back 64-bit until the "time is right", no great loss now. Cons 1) Expensive to have all the upgrades at one time. 2) Hot potato to deal with (it will be resolved in a few months). AMD Pros 1) A64 will become more mature and better. 2) Lower cost to own (in comparsion to P5) 3) Faster than P5 currently. Cons 1) ECC required 2) Less control of the market (lack of chipset manufacturing). In a long run, Intel will still be leading the tech front while AMD follows. After 4 beers, this does make a lot of sense, doesn't it? Another point; Intel knows how to make money with which they can afford wasting a little. Celeron is a by-product to get rid of "P4 rejects". AMD wanted enthusiasts market; they got it and lost a lot of money; without money they can't afford any waste. Waste can be definited as taking chances. (Now after consuming my 5th glass of beer) uke: When BTX form factor is out; and if it becomes mainstream. Would AMD becomes APPLE/MAC of today? Hmmmm, I should be buying Intel stock while it is still LOW.

| S939 does not require ECC memory only S940 Opteron / 64 FX does

| I'm still sober; jmke, you are as always correct with detail. Lesson learnt; don't drink and write. Bottom line, Intel will lead the tech front since there is no other has the "cash" they have. Money makes money.

| Dude Tejas were canceled like two months ago, live in the present. I guess they were a little on the warm side. Also Athlon 64 will recieve DDR2 and PCI-E just not immediatly, and really there is no point immediatly, the best thing now is a transitional mobo with PCI-E and AGP, DDR and DDR2, and Socket 754 and 939. If a board like that were released I would pay $200 for it. |
