22" WS LCD Help

Hey all, I'm still stuck using a CRT monitor. As much as I love the fact that it displays colors like no other (very vivid and great contrast), I'm just a bit tired of it heating my room, taking up a massive amount of space, and weighing a ton. Not to mention that it can only run 1280x1024 as max resolution at 60hz, which is a killer on my already glasses covered eyes!:o

So I decided I want to catch up to the mainstream a bit and buy an LCD. A 22" wide screen LCD to be precise. I figured I would wait until after xmas in hope of a bit of a price drop. I had my eye on two an newegg.com the Samsung http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001083 and the Sceptre http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824112005

Now, I don't know too much about monitors. So I was wonder what exactly are the different display types (
WSXGA+ ???) and if having a higher pixel pitch, brightness, and contrast ratio is better or worst? And what are the different types of response times (I know lower is better) like GTG and such, and which one is the best?

Also, I've been consider waiting till Dell releases their 22" Widescreen at a cheap price. But honestly, I just don't want to make a bad buy that I'll regret later. That's why I'm wondering if you guys could give me some info on what to look out for and such.

Any help apreciated, thanks!

So practically zero increase in vertical resolution, remember that in low screens you need much bigger size to get better vertical resolution.

All TFT are bright enough, quite many practically increase contrast ratio artificially by making white blinding bright because they can't get black to even near black.
Also response times aren't simple thing, measuring methods of that vary between manufacturers and response times are decreased by overdriving pixels which again can cause artifacts to moving picture if it isn't done well.
So it's better to look for TFTs which have won comparisons unless you can't see/test display yourself.

google a bit for comparisons, Tomshardware and X-Bit Labs have good roundup tests

samsung 225bw/226bw

hello,

I want to buy a 22" widescreen monitor, i wanted to buy a samsung 225bw untill i heart about the 226bw, i have read that it has a contrast of 3000:1 and that would be great. I have also heard that it has a 700:1 contrast, but it isnt shure if it will be released in the netherlands, and i cant find any information about this. Does anybody know more about this? About the contrast and the release date, i know the 225bw is 5ms and the 226bw 2ms, but i dont like the looks of the 226bw. I hope somebody can tell me more, thx.

Grtz

If I remember correctly, when I was doing some googleing on 22" LCDs I read something about how anything above 800:1 contrast is usually just an overbleeding of the black.

Dell has one now for just $296 USD. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-5205

But it's only 1680x1050.

I don't WideScreen at all, internet pages are really screwed up, not all games can run these custom resolutions, resulting in pixelated image, I have a 42" plasma screen to watch my movies on; no need for WideScreen monitor.

You don't think that more and more games are going to be developed with wide screen in mind later on? I mean there is already a patch for the new Rainbow 6.

sure there are games which support and offer patches & tweaks, but that still doesn't mean the game experience is better in wide screen;)
