Default USB connector MX510

My MX510 USB Connector recently suffered a death at the hands of my 35 pound case (full ATX server tower). I've already stripped the wires but I need help with a soldering guide on connectoing the usb to a suitable connector. Ill list the wires Red. Green, White, Black (ground?), and a big old mess of copper wire the middle. Please help only 10 days till this 900 person LAN im attending (millionmanlan.com). I really NEED this mouse to not be out of comission. Any help is appriciated.

all the wires look pretty standard except for the big mess of copper in the middle. Is this similiar to the nylon put in Cat 5 cable? Is this thing actually transmitting a signal? (Ill get some images up asap) and ty jmke.

Red 5V+
White data -
Green data +
Black Ground
copper mess: metal around the plug.
That is, if they follow standard coloring codes.

copper mess is used as a cage of Faraday to have some EMI-shielding. (electro-magnetic interference)
You don't actually need it, but attaching it won't hurt.
Do you have a spare USB connector with no wires on it or are you trying to solder the wires of a broken cable together?
