stability problems... Hello... My duron 1.6 is overclocked to 11*190 on an epox 8RDA+ (rev 1.0) mobo. the mem is @ 100% and is Winbond BH5, so that's probebly not the bottleneck. and the graka is a 9800 np, so no problem, here I think. It sometimes freezes when I play games, even when they're not the newest games (e.g. rise of nations, which isn't a very demanding game). What happens? Well, All of a sudden, my screen blacks out, and my led says no signal input (or something like that). Or, my computer just reboots... My Vccore is @ 1.6 now instead of 1.5 normally, but this doesn't help very much either... Could you help me out, it's really annoying if your computer blacks out in the middle of a game :( Thanks |
do you have the problem when running the Duron @ 1.6ghz? |
already tried Prime95 ? |
yep, try prime and see what happens how are your voltage rails, and what PSU are you using? |
I don't have any problems running @ 1.6Ghz I tried prime a time ago, and everything went fine, but I'll let it run all afternoon. voltage rails are: 3.3V -> 2.74V :( 5V -> 4.92V 12V ->12.22V it's a no-name PSU (300W I believe) I lowered my Vcore back to 1.550 instead of 1.625 It should be stable at that voltage... thanks |

then the problem is definitely your overclock. lower the multiplier and enjoy stability. the 3.3v line is below spec too, might want to look into that. |
New durons appaloosas are unfortunatly mp locked. Try unlocking the l2cache for extra speed and instability. : ) |

get yourself a decent PSU and you'll be flying along ;) |
idd, it must be the PSU... I ran prime from 13.00 till 19.45 and I had no problem at all (at 10*180 with 1.55 Vcore, but I think it will be the same @ higher FSB) btw, the mp isn't locked, as far asI recall... guess I'll search a decent PSU... |
I still haven't bought a new PSU but now, when it blacks out and I restart, he gives a 25 error (on the little screen/led-thingie on the mobo) and makes a high-low noise. couldn't it be something else then? |
I finally installed a new PSU. A Levicom 550W (that flashy one). I thought it would have nice V-rails but noooooo, this PSU is a reincarnation of the previous one: 3.3 -> 2.86 5 -> 4.87 12 -> 12.71 Yet, I ran prime for 6 hours at a speed of 11*193 and no errors occured. Then I played Rome - Total War for 15 minutes and the screen blacked out (like in my first post): it was like there was no signal input from the vid-card, but everything kept running (for instance the fan of the graka) meanwhile the music hangs like a scratched record, or sometimes, winamp keeps playing... Vcore is 1.6 now and RAM 2.9 I thought, I will probebly lower it later. the differences between my current rig and the one from the first post is: the PSU change, heatspreaders on the ram and I flashed my 9800 np to a pro (no problems there) Should I try this mod: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...p/t-30827.html or Are the problems caused by the low 3.3V-rail?? |
Mobo volt read-outs aren't correct. My 12V sometimes is 10V ! can't be correct. Now, the black screen think looks familiar. My R9600PRO has the same thing when it's overclocked too high. The screen turns off, but the game doesn't crash (I can blindly restart my pc w/o resetting it). |

Couldn't this be a driver issue?? because there is no indication that my 9800 pro (flashed) is overclocked to high (I can run 3Dmark etc without artefacts) |
run it several times in a row, if you have pro version and/or if you use 2001, you can loop it automatically. have atitool test for artifacts for a while. 1 3dmark run doesn't always bring out the flaws ;) |

Idle: 12.72V / 4.90V Load: 12.82V(!) / 4.88V I will take kristos advice and loop 3dmark an hour of 3 together with atitool if it's possible |
don't use both together. maybe you can try this guide: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=3147772 |
