Replace R9800XL cooler I need to replace a cooler from a R9800XL (it's a Medion ...), but I can't get the cooler of, it doesn't move a mm. I've tried heating it up to 75° but even then it doesn't move at all  . What the best way to remove the cooler without breaking the card or the core ? |
heating it up with blow dryer should work... |
What's the max. temperature it can handle ? Because it'll have to be a lot higher than 75°c. |
without being powered on? 90°C approx, I think, but maybe heat it up longer at 80°C and use a flat screwdriver wrapped in piece of cloth to push upwards between HSF and PCB |
i froze mine in an anti-static bag , then removed the cooler with my hands (also 9800xl medion ) replaced it with arctiv 7 freezer or something |
Freezer is a CPU cooler;) |
95° and a screwdriver did the trick :woot: . I was first a bit afraid to use a screwdriver, but in the end it proved to be very usefull :D . @[Bonbon] The 9800XL has the same mounting holes as a 9800Pro, not ? |
would look fo VF700 or ATI Silencer, better price/performance units |

Deepfreeze @ -10°C or something like that, trap your piece of hardware in there for aprox 1 hour and you shouldn't have much problems removing the HS. |
don't like to force that needs to be applied doing the freezer method, with blowdryer it comes off easier ;) |
