do I have Codec problem I got rid of two 8X DVD RW drives and replaced them with 16X. Now, I could not watch DVD from PC after I recorded them from the new 16X drive in the older 8X dvd drive. Yet, it is playable with home DVD player. What causes this?? |
at what speed are you writing the DVDs; most media has 8x limit there are only a handful 12x available, and forget about 16x:) |
It defaults at 16X write; and without any provision for change using DVD Shink. The playback is okay with Home DVD player; and the 16X DVD Drive ... not in any old ones. The funny part is that it works on 5 years old home DVD player. |

You recorded the DVD with the 16x from the 8x ? Puzzled ? Had a similar problem, problem solved after installing the windvd-software and uninstalling it afterwards. Something to do with hardware-software mpeg encoding ... forgot the technical explanation ... my memory is corrupted heavily ... scuzzi |
Reinstalling winDVD may solve the problem? I figure if the disk is playble in an older home DVD player, it has to be okay with older 4,6,8,10X DVD Drives. I will try..... freaking strange. |

what media are you using? try this: copy all the data from the written DVD to HDD, do you get CRC errors? |
Yes, copied to HD and moved to DVD format. Two DVD drives in one machine .. 1 DVD 8X 1 DVD R/W 16X after reording, the 16X drive playback fine but not the 8X drive. |
So you can playback your DVD's What is the problem then *exactly* ? Still cannot figure out first sentence. Take the 8x DVd out of your system. |

does that work? burning at 16x is very fast, and if the media can not keep up you'll get problems. |
Trying something different and it works ...... reconfiming; will post afterward. Copy of burnd DVD playable using Home DVD player, not playable with PC DVD drive <16X, but playble with 16X = no good = must have logical answer. 8X DVD works with original DVD. |
Did not Work with slower DVD Drive DVD Shrink direct copy to DVD Burner (16X write speed too fast) Works- DVD Shrink to HDD, HDD to DVD burner (very slow but works in any DVD drive and Home Player). AMD 64 @2700 Mhz is 40% slower than P4 3.4 Ghz .... Intel still the best for video stuffs. |
