problem with instlling windows on SATA HD

I push the F6 button to "install a non-microsoft ... " and then I install the driver for my SATA HD. Wen that's done some files are being loaded and then the screen becomes black with a white cursor flashing in the top left corner. Then the actual windows setup should begin.

In my case the whole thing hangs on the black screen, and the only thing I can do is reset.

Any advice ?
(also on shrimp)
tnx !!

ah sorry.

mobo : Abit NF7-s (rev 2.0)
only 1 HD : Seagate Cuda V --> cable select
boot order : CD-ROM, SATA HD

I'm off to work now thus I'll only replie tonight.

Did you enable the sata - raid controller in the bios ?
Can you access the disk during boot-up (ctrl H for sata bios, not sure though)
Can you access the sata disk with a system disk ?
Is it properly formatted ?

Cable select, for a SATA driver???
Anyway, try starting windows without pressing F6, and see if you can get any further.
The point your windows hangs, it has to come out of first file copy (loading of drivers for all kinds of stuff) into the actual setup.
It may just be something else that causes your windows to hang at that point. (memory, CPU ...)

Not pressing F6 doesn't get me any further.
I'll flash the bios now.

Thus the problem is not the harddrive, not the SATA drivers.
These don't come into play without the drivers.

hmmm, I've tried to flash my bios and everything went well at first. But when I change something in the new bios, the screen stays black after the reboot. crap...

I'll try to flash it again in a few moments.
