network problem we are all students en we have put our computers in a network, we all have operating system windows xp , but there is one computer working with windows 2000 en he can't go on the network Are the settings are right what can i do? |
what do mean with "cant get on the network" do you use a HUB/SWITCH to connect? does the lights on the networkcard come alive? |
no, it's not my pc it's for a friend so he can go on the internet, but he can't see us in our house network we have a router |
does the router provide your PC with an IP address (DHCP) ? he can't go "on the network" meaning he cant see the other PC's? try start -> run \\ip_address_of_pc_he_wants_to_connect_to what happens then? |
make a "network installation disk" with the networkwizard on an xp machine, run the disk on the w2k pc; ready is cheese ;) |
if he is using the DHCP from the router , using that disk will **** up his config on the 2K machine :p |
start -> run \\ip_address_of_pc_he_wants_to_connect_to if i do this, it don't find the ip |
do on both 2000 & XP machine start -> run cmd ipconfig /all what does it say? |
