Motherboard recognizing right processor speed.

I have 9CJS ZENITH motherboard with a Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz / 1MB Cache / 800MHz FSB / Socket 478 / HyperThreading / Processor but my system is saying that the processor is only running at 2.8ghz? Any ideas or fixes?

Thanks

I think this is a Speedstep issue of the P4 3.4 which clocks down to 14x multiplier 200 at startup and might not get the back to full speed.

the obvious reason might be overheating, what cooler are you using and how hot is the CPU running?

if that's not it, I would recommended contacting Chaintech...

Its an air cooled system using this particular fan (Aerocool Extreme / Socket 478 / Intel Pentium 4 up to 3.6GHz/AMD Athlon XP up to 3000+ / Sleeve Bearing / Copper COre / CPU Cooling Fan). What would a normal cpu/system temp be for this type of processor?

what value do you get in the BIOS health monitor?

anything above 70°C is cause for worry

the Aerocool Extreme is not a very powerful HSF

It is hovering right around the low to mid 60's *C. What are some things I could do to lower this?

that's not "too hot" for the CPU to clock down to 2800Mhz, problem lies elsewhere
