Memtest86 takes ages

yet another
DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

meaning my sdram is fuX0red. (MS should change the message by : "Buy new RAM")

In stead of just switching the ram i tried memtest. It ran for 3 hours ... i checked the status ... it was at 5% :grum:
Is it normal that it takes about 60 hours to complete checking 512 MB SDRAM ?

RichBa5tard 5th May 2003 10:53

lol, memtest 86 loops untill you stop it. :D I think one loop takes 45 minutes, but if you pass test #5 (press 'c', 2 5 5 0 i think) you've got 90% chance it will pass all tests (and it only takes 2 minutes).

9) Execution Time
==================
The time required for a complete pass of Memtest86 will vary greatly
depending on CPU speed, memory speed and memory size. Here are the
execution times from a Cleron-366 with 64MB of SDRAM:

Test 0: 0:05
Test 1: 0:18
Test 2: 1:02
Test 3: 1:38
Test 4: 8:05
Test 5: 1:40
Test 6: 4:24
Test 7: 6:04

Total Time for Default tests: 23:16

Test 8: 12:30
Test 9: 49:30
Test 10: 30:34
Test 11: 3:29:40

Total Time for All tests: 5:25:30
64 * 4 = 512Mb

5hours 25min * 4 = 25hours+

!

I think bosw8er has something a little bit faster than a celeron 366. ;)

One complete (default test) loop takes ~15minutes on my 512mb DDR rig 2Ghz amd <> 23m16s for 64mb on a celly

jmke 5th May 2003 11:06

still :p

Bosw8er 5th May 2003 11:26

Rig was folding & stabtest stable + no errors during 3 hours memtest run. No HW or SW change in the last 2 months. Rig is running at default speeds.

Changed ram because of crashing W2K fax program, resulting in bleuscreen

Thx 4 the help.

trixs 30th May 2003 18:01

oh yeah sorry forgot it's in englisch :s

Welcome ! English please.

Tranl: Can you do memtest if you don't have a floppy ?

the maniak 30th May 2003 18:33

i believe that u can also boot it from cd

but for more info check the site

FreeStyler 2nd June 2003 03:14

There is indeed a bootable memtest CD you can download.

memtest also runs just the basic tests (1-7) unless you command it to do full tests.
The extended tests show little problems that the basic won't. And if there are such problems chances are you won't even notice them.

isn't that when you oc to high??

I always get that screen when I oc to high

greetz

jmke 2nd June 2003 09:36

you can get that for alot of reasons :)

FreeStyler 2nd June 2003 13:25

That's why you're testing.

When you OC memory too much, you'll be seeing errors. And once you get errors chances are pretty slim that windows will still boot.
CPU errors are much less likely to prevent windows from booting, and might even never show up. Untill you throw prime @ it.

The real ***** are chipset problems however.

euhm how do you burn memtest on a cd? because you've got a img and a bin file:s but i can't burn any of those with nero

edit: sorry forgot my englisch again

the maniak 3rd June 2003 20:31

nero normally writes them, but get the latest version, it's free

trixs 3rd June 2003 20:50

I have got version 5.5.10.20, that's recent enough I think?

trixs 8th June 2003 10:01

nobody know how to burn it on cd??

jmke 8th June 2003 10:03

where did you get it from? got an url
I'll take a quick look

trixs 8th June 2003 15:48

http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.0.iso.zip

trixs 14th June 2003 10:37

can someone plz help me how to burn it ??

TeuS 14th June 2003 10:47

http://www.wizardskeep.org/mainhall/tutor/neroiso.html

trixs 14th June 2003 14:17

i know but doesn't work like that, nero doesn't recognize them as image files

TeuS 14th June 2003 14:33

latest nero? you didn't forget to UNZIP it?

trixs 14th June 2003 15:38

yes very recent nero, and yes I unzipt it, and i got an iso file then and an img file

TeuS 14th June 2003 16:14

I've written Koppix today (Linux) and it was a .iso (KNOPPIX_V3.2-2003-06-06-EN.iso)

just burn the .iso with nero (file>burn image)

FreeStyler 14th June 2003 18:49

If nero won't show the image, just select show all files and select it anyway.
It will burn it.
