How did I end up with drives designated as I:\ J:\ K:\ etc?
 

With my HP PC I used to have drives designated as C:\, D:\, E:\ but since my new 9JCS MOBO install, with XP Home, my drives are designated I:\, J:\, K:\ etc.

My thought is it's a BIOS setting but I'll be darned if I know which one. I have a RAID-0 designated as I:\ drive, plus an extra hard drive now designated as J:\.

Can this be fixed or do I have to do everything over again?

you installed windows with the Addon USB drive-bay plugged into the system; all those memory stick drives will take the c:\.. etc spots. the only way to fix this is to remove memory reader expansion from the motherboard during before you reinstall Windows.

Afterwards you can plug the expansion board back in.

Thanks, I'm thinking I might have to reinstall everything anyway so I'll definitely keep that trick in mind. I'm seriously considering upping to XP Pro so that I can have RAID-1 with my 9JCS.

only consider RAID-1 if you want Data security against Hard drive crashes.

RAID-1 will reduce writing speed, reading speed will be a little bit better then with a single drive setup (especially with larger files)

You cannot change the drive letter of the system volume..

Well, I tought it would maybe work, I changed my drives names with that. Even name of my boot disk.

If I'm not mistaking you can also change drive names with partition magic, but I don't know if you can change the name of your boot disk.
